Position Title: Community Outreach Volunteer, Volunteers in Medicine San Diego Applicant Type: Adults, individuals, students (must be 18 years or older), anyone interested in health care and connecting with the community more. Description: As a Community Outreach Volunteer, you will help coordinate materials and set- up items needed for outreach events and activities including; attending fairs and community events, tabling booths, to help connect the community with our services for community outreach purposes to communicate the mission and purpose of the organization. Essential Position Functions: ∙ Attend community events/fairs to represent VIM and the services we offer ∙ Engage community members Who We Are: Volunteers in Medicine (VIM) San Diego is a nonprofit medical clinic serving low- income, uninsured residents of San Diego County, California. We care for patients at no charge when they have no other avenue for medical care. We do this by engaging volunteer doctors, nurses, therapists, pharmacists, interpreters, and other community members who have a passion for our mission and demonstrate the culture of caring and kindness on which the VIM Clinic was founded. Location and Time Commitment: Our VIM clinic is located in El Cajon. Most of the events and fairs will be in East County, San Diego. Our opportunities are flexible and can fit around your routine. Time commitment and location is flexible and dependent upon outreach efforts and events. Typically, the fairs and events are on the weekend, specifically Saturdays. The time commitment is approximately 5-10 hours a month. Minimum Requirements: Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills are required. Must have the ability to effectively prepare and present information and services on Volunteers in Medicine to various individuals and small groups. Must present self in a professional manner. The ability to work independently or with others to manage multiple tasks with minimal supervision is essential. Light physical demands with transporting, setting up and taking down outreach materials, banners, tables, and more. Must have reliable transportation. Volunteers in Medicine San Diego is seeking new Board Trustees for our El Cajon, CA, based, free medical clinic. We are a 501(c) nonprofit that provides healthcare for the uninsured in San Diego County with a small staff and a loyal group of volunteers. VIM-SD offers free medical care to those who need it most and can do so because of our volunteers' generous donations, including medical providers, nurses, and support staff who dedicate their time, energy, and talents to care for our patients. The members of the Board of Trustees of Volunteers in Medicine - San Diego (VIM) consist of a diverse group of people that reflects the community it serves-the maximum size of the board is 25 members. The board's roles and responsibilities can be broken down in three general categories: 50% fundraising, 25% strategic planning, 25% fiduciary oversight. This role requires a commitment to volunteer some time each month towards board meetings, committee meetings, and fundraising events. The following are recommendations for board membership: Business Community: Corporate community members have countless "spheres of influence" that can help bring in needed financial resources to the clinic. Spheres of influence should include but not be limited to Legal, business management, public relations/marketing, medical/psycho-social, fund/business development, and human resources. Community: A portion of the volunteer community that has tremendous potential to provide needed resources and talents to the clinic are those from the medical field, religious and community. Responsibilities ● Each Board member should serve as an ambassador for the VIM by actively supporting the clinic's mission. ● All Board trustees must strive to attend at least 50% of the scheduled board meetings. Participation in a minimum of one event per year. ● Each Board trustee must sign an annual Board of Trustees Agreement. ● Actively participate in the Give/Get Policy. Each Board member should strive to "impact" the agency by a minimum of $1,000 annually through an annual personal contribution (of any size), and identify/solicit potential donors/sponsors. ● Maintain ethical and moral standards. ● Each Board trustee should serve on at least one committee and participate actively. ● Develop an understanding of the programs and services provided by VIM. Front Line Manager is the first person that anyone meets as they enter our free clinic. This volunteers greets and welcomes patients. He/she makes sure the clinic runs smoothly -an integral part of how patients are cared for and able to work with Physicians, Registered Nurses and other support staff. Responsible for scheduling follow up appointments with primary care and specialty care providers. Computer skills are necessary for scheduling these appointments.

We are a free medical clinic that cares for uninsured patients. Volunteers in Medicine is located in East County and cares for 200-300 patients per month with volunteer medical providers and support staff. COVID 19 has certainly disrupted lives but the impact on our vulnerable patients has been significant. Psychologist select the clinic times when they are available. All of our patients are pre screened by primary care physicians and scheduled for psychologist appointments. We currently have 11 medical providers, 4 our primary care providers and 80 support staff volunteers. T his is a rewarding opportunity that can make a difference in our patients lives.
