Mission Statement

Connecticut Coalition for Environmental Justice's mission is to improve urban environments in Connecticut. We do this through educating our community, and promoting individual, corporate and governmental responsibility towards our environment. We define environment as the places that we live, work, play and go to school.

Description

Connecticut Coalition for Environmental Justice (CCEJ) is comprised mostly of low-income urban members and volunteers who fight for urban rights to clean air, less polluting facilities, and basic rights that all areas should have rich or poor. We have strategic planning committee meetings twice a year and the members vote on what we want to work on for the next 6 months or into the legislative session. We get to go to the Legilative Office Building here in Hartford and meet the legislators and try to get them to sign on to our causes. It is fun to learn how the system works being in the Capitol of Connecticut. We have monthly trinings on a variety of topics from Hazardous Waste Removal to Toxics in Toys, a great variety. We serve snacks at committee meetings during the day, meals for our monthly meetings which are the first Thursday of the month at 5:30pm. So if a potential volunteer wants to meet and see what we are about come to a monthly meeting!!! Call Dawn at (860) 548-1133 for more information.
