Overview: Cancer Support Community DC is seeking a licensed mental health professional (LCSW, LPC, LMFT, or licensed master’s level professional such as an LMSW or similar) to volunteer as a Cancer Bereavement Group Instructor. This volunteer will lead a monthly evening support group for individuals who have experienced the loss of a loved one due to cancer. The group will provide a safe, supportive environment where participants can share their grief, gain coping strategies, and find comfort among others who are navigating similar challenges. Responsibilities: Lead a monthly Cancer Bereavement Support Group for individuals grieving the loss of a loved one due to cancer. Facilitate group discussions, providing space for participants to share their feelings and experiences in a respectful and non-judgmental environment. Offer professional guidance on grief and loss, utilizing therapeutic approaches and coping strategies. Create a safe space for individuals to express their emotions, while maintaining appropriate boundaries. Collaborate with Cancer Support Community staff to assess group needs and adjust the program as necessary. Provide resources and referrals when appropriate to support the emotional well-being of group members. Qualifications: Licensed mental health provider (LCSW, LPC, LMFT, LMSW, or equivalent) with experience in grief counseling and bereavement support. Previous experience working with individuals experiencing loss, particularly in the context of cancer-related death, is preferred. Strong knowledge of grief and loss processes, especially in cancer patients and their families. Compassionate, empathetic, and non-judgmental approach to group facilitation. Ability to create a supportive and confidential environment for participants. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to foster trust and comfort in a group setting. Group Details: Frequency: Monthly Time: Evening hours (exact time to be determined based on volunteer availability) Format: Group meetings will be held in-person or virtually, depending on the current guidelines and participant needs.

Cancer Support Community DC is seeking a compassionate and skilled volunteer Art Therapy Facilitator to guide individuals impacted by cancer through creative expression. This volunteer role offers a meaningful opportunity to provide emotional support, healing, and an outlet for self-expression through art in a hybrid format (both in-person and virtual). Role Responsibilities: Lead art therapy sessions for cancer patients, survivors, and their families, creating a safe and welcoming space for creative expression. Use various art techniques (drawing, painting, sculpture, etc.) to help participants explore their feelings, reduce stress, and improve emotional well-being. Encourage personal growth and self-discovery through individual and group activities. Provide emotional support and create a non-judgmental environment where participants can express themselves freely. Facilitate both in-person and virtual sessions depending on participant needs and preferences. Qualifications: Previous experience in art therapy, counseling, or a related field (preferred). Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a compassionate and empathetic approach. Ability to work with individuals of diverse backgrounds and varying levels of artistic experience. A genuine desire to help individuals affected by cancer find comfort and healing through creative expression. Time Commitment: Sessions are offered quarterly, but we are flexible and open to a frequency that works best for the volunteer. Overview: Cancer Support Community DC is seeking a compassionate and experienced Movement Instructor to lead a group offering for individuals who are actively undergoing cancer treatment and have physical limitations. This group will focus on gentle, guided movement exercises designed to improve mobility, flexibility, and overall well-being, tailored to those with physical limitations due to cancer treatment. The ideal volunteer will have experience in physical therapy (PT), occupational therapy (OT), or movement therapy, especially with oncology patients. Licenses or certifications in PT/OT with a specialty in oncology rehabilitation are preferred. Responsibilities: Lead a monthly or quarterly group class designed for cancer patients undergoing active treatment. Offer movement exercises that accommodate varying levels of physical ability and encourage safe participation. Create a supportive, non-judgmental, and inclusive environment where participants feel comfortable moving at their own pace. Modify exercises based on individual needs, ensuring safety and comfort. Work with Cancer Support Community staff to assess and adapt the program as needed. Ensure exercises follow best practices for oncology rehabilitation. Qualifications: Certification or licensure in physical therapy (PT) or occupational therapy (OT) with a focus on oncology rehabilitation (preferred).
