Mission Statement

Global Village Engineers is an organization that directs a corps of civil engineers, environmental scientists and other technical experts who volunteer to advise communities and NGOs in developing nations about infrastructure projects. GVE promotes community participation in civil society, focusing on public infrastructure, environmental protection and disaster prevention.

Description

With GVE's unique technical assistance, communities have had the opportunity gain the knowledge, confidence, and voice to participate as respected partners with government and international agencies in making decisions about local infrastructure projects. Once partner communities have the experience of active involvement in infrastructure planning, they recognize both their ability and their right to play a role in decision-making about infrastructure development projects. When communities successfully use engineering knowledge to better the environment that shapes their lives, GVE has fulfilled its mission. Global Village Engineers identifies talented engineers with excellent technical and problem-solving skills who want to use their expertise on a volunteer basis to serve the poorest communities in the developing world. GVE was founded in 1999 by two civil engineers who, within a single year, organized seven teams of volunteer engineers who worked with communities in two Latin American countries. In 2003, we plan to expand the number of teams working in Latin America and offer our assistance where needed in Asia.
