Promote programs of research, advocacy, education, support and awareness in order to discover treatments and a cure for Polycycstic Kidney Disease and improve the lives of all it affects.
Polycystic Kidney Disease(PKD) is one of the most common life-threatening genetic diseases in the United States affecting approximately 600,000 people. More people suffer from PKD than Down's Syndrome, Cystic Fibrosis, musculare dystrophy and Sickle Cell Anemia- combined. There is currently no cure for this disease. It is hereditary and each child born to a parent with PKD has a 50% chance of inheriting the disease. Our goal is to find a CURE. In the meantime we are doing all we can to help those with PKD through education and support.
Each year the PKD Foundation through it's local chapters hosts a Walk for PKD which is our main fundraiser. This year the San Francisco Chapter will host it's 1st Annual Walk for PKD. We expect over 500 participants at the Walk which will be held on Septemeber 12, 2009 at Crissy Field in San Francisco. The Walk is a 3k walk around the presidio with views of the Golden Gate Bridge. registration is 8 am and the Walk start time is 9 am. The walk will be followed by a program including live entertainment, food and award presentations.
