Description
eXcel Youth Zone (XYZ) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located in San Diego, California that works to enhance learning and support youth to impact and make real changes in our world.
Since being founded in 2003, XYZ has facilitated in-school and after-school community service learning clubs at elementary schools, middle schools, and high schools in southern California. XYZ clubs are highly interactive. Youth voice is central to the service club projects. Students design, explore, and experience service-learning projects to meet community needs. Students work in teams to organize projects, demonstrate leadership skills, attend educational field trips, develop new skills from professional workshops and communicate with guest speakers/ leaders from their local and regional cities. Students engage, reflect and demonstrate the process of their service-learning projects to the community. XYZ offers training, technical assistance and teacher coaching to establish the pedagogy of service-learning into specific curriculum and/or a classroom setting.
