Mission Statement

The mission of the Gyuto Foundation is to bring the teachings of the Buddha to the San Francisco Bay Area and to preserve and promote Tibetan Buddhism.

Description

Since its founding in 2000, by Venerable Thupten Donyo, Gyuto Foundation (formerly Gyuto Vajrayana Center) has provided the teachings of the Buddha and practices of Tibetan Buddhism to all who visit the beautiful monastery located in Richmond, California.

In order to preserve the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, the monastery in Richmond, California invites highly qualified teachers to the San Francsico Bay Area and provides teachings on Sutra and Tantra. In 2007 the Foundation had the great honor of hosting His Holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama, in the San Francisco Bay Area. Along with teachings, the Foundation organizes initiations, empowerments, prayer ceremonies, funeral services, house blessings and purifications to the Tibetan Buddhist community in the San Francisco Bay Area. We also reach out not only to different schools of Tibetan Buddhism but also to Buddhist practitioners of every nationality. Nonsectarian outreach is part of the activities of the Foundation. The Foundation reaches out to the San Francisco Bay neighborhoods offering spiritual support to those in need.
