Mission Statement

The purpose of Yu-Ai Kai (Organization of Friendship and Love) is for the advancement of the health, education and well-being of older adults in the Japanese and Asian American community through the development of culturally relevant programs, the provision of bilingual services, the dissemination of information affecting older adults and by the development of intergennerational support programs.

Description

Yu-Ai Kai (Organization of Friendship and Love) is a twenty-six year old multiservice senior center located in San Jose's Japantown. Yu-Ai Kai serves over 2700 seniors who reside in the Silicon Valley per year providing: bilingual social services, transportation, medical escort, case maangement, licensed senior day services, respite, caregiver support, nutrition-congregate meal program (120 hot Japanese style lunches per day), Meals on Wheels, activities, trips, shuji (calligraphy), Minyo (folk singing), Origami (paper folding), Ikebana (flower arranging), line dancing, conversational Japanese classes. Other services include: BART sales, Flashpass sales, SCRIP sales (Macy's, Albertson's, Nob Hill), grocery shopping, Brown Bag program, Ohakamairi (cemetery visits), Annual Flu shots, Income Tax Assistance, Blood Pressure Screening, Wellness and Caregiver Workshops.
