Founded because of a promise made by Nancy G. Brinker to her dying sister, Susan G. Komen over 25 ago, the Komen
organization, with it's 124 Affiliates throughout the world, is the leader in raising awareness and funding for breast cancer.
Through their grant programs, the organization funds research, education, support, screening and treatment in the local communities around the world. Up to 75% of the funds raised from events like the Race for the Cure stay in the local community. 25% are sent to the Komen national headquarters in Dallas, TX to fund grant programs for life saving breast cancer research internationally. To date they have granted well over a billion dollars in their efforts to find a cure.
