Description

The James Blackstone Memorial Library dates back to 1896 when Timothy Blackstone, of Chicago, built a library in Branford CT in memory of his father, James. The library opened with a collection of 5,000 books to serve the population of 5,000 people. In 125 years the town has grown to 30,000 people and the library collection has grown to 80,000 items. The library is open 63 hours per week and serves the town with books, media, programs, and Internet access, emphasizing excellent customer service given by a highly competent staff.
