Here's a sample of our volunteer opportunities:VIEW AS
The Pan-African Community Organization provides culturally and linguistically accessible education, support, and referral services to facilitate the health and wellness of African immigrants and their families in Minnesota.
PACO was established by Ethiopian refugees and asylum seekers in 2004. Since its inception, PACO has worked with the African-immigrant population of Minnesota in efforts geared towards developing and maintaining self-sufficiency. PACO has successfully implemented an employment assistance program, job-training and skills matching program, HIV & AIDS prevention and community outreach program, and assists in facilitating access to vital community and social services. Establishing the ESL/Computer Literacy/Civics Education and Learning Resource Center is a natural step in the progression and growth of this active community organization.
Currently PACO's program is focused on adult basic education. There is dearth of educational support opportunities and infrastructure. While K-12 education is very important, adult education is often overlooked. This can create problems for the family with children who have successfully developed English language skills, and have forgone the language of their parents. The parents are unable to be involved in their children's lives, as advocates and as support. PACO seeks to serve this niche group, with a longitudinal plan of expanding the learning center to involve full family-oriented services.
The Pan-African Community Organization is looking for volunteers to assist with its pilot ESL/Computer Literacy/Civics education and learning resource center program.
