Mission Statement

Founded in 1971, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Erie County is WNY's premier mentoring program. As one of the 500+ affiliates of the national Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, the agency must undergo an extensive evaluation and must meet or exceed over 250 minimum standards to remain a member in good standing. The goal of the agency is to place positive adults role models into the lives of "at-risk" youth in the hopes of improving their self-esteem and enhancing their chances of success in the future. This is accomplished by asking the volunteer, under the supervision of the agency's professional staff, to develop a relationship with the child based on trust, communication and concern.

Description

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Erie County matches carefully screened individuals with children. The agency currently provides mentors through Community Based and Site Based Mentoring models. The program also provides services in a group model with one staff mentor and 5 youth.

I love to be around children and just people in general. I love to help out anyone that I can and will try my best to do what I can do. I would love to be able to be a big sister to Someone that needs it or just needs someone to talk to and just be there for them and show them the love and support that they want.
