Mission Statement

The mission of the South Bronx Food Cooperative is to provide affordable and nutritious food to all residents of the South Bronx (and NYC) while empowering the local community by encouraging good health, providing relevant job skills and fostering environmentally responsible activities through democratic cooperation.

Our objectives are to:

Enrich the community by providing affordable, nutritious, environmentally responsible food and products year-round.

Address and provide solutions to health disparity issues experienced by local residents.

Educate members and residents about the benefits of healthy eating and living.

Teach valued job and communication skills to members.

Invest in our community to ensure sustainable economic development.

Instill a sense of empowerment and involvement through democratic participation.

Foster sustainable partnerships with local farmers, CSA's, Farmer's Markets, other cooperatives, community, health and education institutions.

The South Bronx Food Cooperative offers a diversity of products with an emphasis on organic, minimally processed and healthful foods. We seek to avoid products that depend on the exploitation of others. We support non-toxic, sustainable agriculture. We also respect the environment and strive to educate members and non-members to reduce the impact of our lifestyles on the world we share with other species and future generations.

The SBxFC is committed to diversity and equality. We oppose discrimination in any form. We strive to make the coop welcoming and accessible to all and to respect the opinions, needs and concerns of every member. We happily welcome all who respect these values
