Mission Statement

Marion County HFH is a locally run affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization. Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with people in need to build and renovate decent, affordable housing. The houses then are sold to those in need at no profit and with no interest charged.

Description

Founded in 1976 by Linda and Millard Fuller, Habitat for Humanity International is an ecumenical, Christian housing ministry that seeks to eliminate poverty housing from the world and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. By having people of various backgrounds work together in equal partnerships, Habitat builds new relationships and a sense of community as well as new homes.

Habitat is not a giveaway program, but is a joint venture in which each homeowner family is required to spend a certain number of hours helping to build their own home and the home of someone else in their community.

Houses are sold at no profit and no interest so that the monthly payment is very affordable.

Habitat for Humanity has hundreds of affiliates throughout the U.S., Canada, and Australia and sponsored projects in dozens of developing countries.
