Mission Statement

Haiti Nursing Foundation's mission is to support the advancement of nursing in the Republic of Haiti. The focus of this support is on nursing education, and especially on the FSIL School of Nursing in Léogâne, Haiti . (FSIL is an abbreviation for Faculté des Sciences Infirmières de l'Université Episcopale d'Haïti - Faculty of Nursing Science of the Episcopal University of Haiti.)

Description

HNF is a small nonprofit with an Executive Director and a very active board executive committee. Our primary purpose is to raise financial support for the only 4-year baccaulareate school of nursing in Haiti. The need for nurses in Haiti is tremendous: their shortage is about 77 times ours in the U.S.

The FSIL School of Nursing currently has 105 students in 4 classes, and graduated its first class in January 2009. These young men and women were the first to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing within their own country.

Because of Haiti's economy, a school of this kind could not function without help from outside the country. HNF was created to raise operating and scholarship support for the school.
