Mission Statement

Project Opportunity's integrated work services assist adults with developmental disabilities at their jobs and in their community, without regard to level or type of disability. Our mission is to facilitate the inclusion of individuals with developmental disabilities into the work, recreation, and everyday life of their community; to facilitate participants' self-determination; and to break down societal barriers to both of these.

Description

Project Opportunity is a community-based day program serving 27 adults with developmental disabilities in San Francisco. Our staff offers job coaching, recreational support, educational facilitation, travel training, emotional support and advocacy with the goal that our partcipants will lead independent and well-integrated lives in their communities. With a maximum ratio of one staff to three participants, the individuals in our program become involved in community environments of their choosing (including jobs, schools, social events and recreational sites)without feeling part of a large "tour" or "special group." We do not have a "center" for providing instruction, since community inclusion cannot occur in environments that segregate people with disabilities.
