Opening Doors, a project funded by the National Institute on Disability Rehabilitation and Research, was started in Boston in 2006. The focus of this project is research and training on how to give youth with disabilities and special health care needs from underserved communities a better future.
Inclusion in community-based recreation for children with disabilities and special health care needs is the primary goal of Project Adventure. Project Adventure is a demonstrationresearch project to study the effect on the physical health and well-being of children with disabilities and chronic medical conditions of participating in weekly recreation and physical activities. Project Adventure matches families with college, graduate, and medical students or adults in your community that are interested in healthcare & human services. Students work with the child to participate in physical activities at a local YMCA.
