Mission Statement

The mission of CASA of Monroe County is to advocate for the best interest of abused and neglected children who are under the protection of the family court. Through the use of court-appointed, community volunteers, CASA seeks to assure safe, permanent families for these children as quickly as possible.

Description

CASA volunteers are ordinary citizens, who after being screened for objectivity, competence, and commitment, are trained in courtroom procedure, advocacy techniques for children, the special needs of children who have been abused, and child development. CASA serves as a fact-finder for the judge by researching the background of each case. The volunteer writes reports making recommendations to the judge as to what he/she thinks is in the child's best interest. The volunteer meets regularly with the child and also expresses that child's wishes in court.
