The mission of the Fannin County Children's Center is to protect and enhance the quality of life of abused, neglected and needy children in Fannin County. The Center has several programs. Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) recruits, screens and trains volunteers to advocate for abused and neglected children involved in the court system. The Children's Advocacy Center (CAC) provides a neutral, child-friendly agency that facilitates a multidisciplinary approach in the prevention, detection, investigation and treatment of child abuse. The Rainbow Rooms, in partnership with Child Protective Services, operate emergency resource rooms to provide for many of the needs of the abused and neglected children of Fannin County, such as clothing, shoes, coats, diapers and more. The annual School Supply Drive is supported by local funds and volunteers to provide supplies to needy children from all over Fannin County. The annual Christmas Drive also depends on local funds and volunteers to give holiday gifts to the children and youth served by CASA and CAC. Child Abuse Prevention programs train children, youth and adults in how to prevent, recognize and respond appropriately to child abuse.
CASA of Fannin County was established in 1992 and received it's first case in April of 1993. CASA recruits, screens and trains volunteers to be advocates for abused and neglected children involved in the court system. CASA volunteers investigate a child's situation and provide written and verbal reports of the findings to the judge. The Children's Advocacy Center (CAC) was started in 1999 and shortly thereafter the agency began doing business as the Fannin County Children's Center. In 2004 the agency's name was legally changed to the Fannin County Children's Center. The CAC partners with public and private agencies involved in investigating, prosecuting and treating child abuse. The CAC team strives to minimize additional trauma to the child and protective family members and promote healing. The Rainbow Rooms are run by volunteers and stocked with new clothing, shoes, diapers, school supplies and other items needed by abused and neglected children.
