Description
*SCHOOL READING PARTNERS Volunteers working in the School Reading Partners program provide beginning readers with extra practice and support. A four-hour training session shows volunteers how to reinforce emerging reading skills through activities that are consistent with instructional strategies used in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools. Volunteers work with Pre-K through second-grade students for one hour per week. Priority will be given to volunteers who can make a year-long commitment, but a minimum commitment of one semester is required. *BLUE RIBBON MENTOR-ADVOCATE The mission of this program is to pair children with adults who work with schools, families and the community to foster the full development of a child's academic, physical, emotional, and social potential. Volunteers make a two-year, two-hour-per-week commitment to a child. In addition, they attend 15 hours of pre-service training and additional education throughout the duration of their commitment. *CLASSROOM VOLUNTEERS Teachers request volunteers for wide variety of roles, from one-time enrichment activities to ongoing tasks unique to each classroom or afterschool program. Teachers provide on-th-job training for the roles they have described.
