Mission Statement
CASA of Memphis & Shelby County empowers volunteers to be a voice in court for abused and neglected children needing a safe, permanent home.
Our vision is for every child to live in a safe, permanent home and in a community where their voices are valued.
Description
CASA of Memphis & Shelby County trains community volunteers to advocate for abused and neglected children in the Memphis and Shebly Co Juvenile Court. Upon completion of a 32-hour training, volunteers are sworn-in and appointed by a judge to speak in the courts on behalf of abused and neglected children. Volunteers conduct an investigation by interviewing the child, family members, teachers, social workers, health care providers and any other persons connected with the child's case. Volunteers will compile all information gathered in a written report to be presented to the court along with recommendations as to what's in the child's best interest. A volunteer will remain on the child's case until a safe, permanent home has been secured for the child.
