New Hope is a Christian based suicide and crisis intervention telephone hotline and web-based counseling site which offers peer counseling services to anyone seeking help 365 days a year since 1968.
Volunteer counselors complete a short training program which equips them to offer active listening, caring hearts, and helping hands through crisis intervention, goal-setting, prayer, and/or community referrals. They provide emotional support through establishing rapport with callers and chatters. Counselors assist hurting people to set goals, brainstorm alternatives and form a a plan of action.
Services are provided to all- no matter what their gender, color, religion, socioeconomic status, lifestyle, or personal need might be.
The New Hope Crisis Counseling Center trains and supervises Christian volunteers of all ages to respond to crisis calls that come in 24-hours a day to 714-NEW-HOPE and to the private chat room at www.NewHopeNow.org.
The required counseling trainig provided for free focuses on: active listening, relationship skills, basic counseling skills, suicide prevention, grief counseling, setting boundaries and crisis intervention.
Telephone counselors serve on site in Garden Grove, CA and online counselors serve from their home computers. Most counselor work one four hour shift per week.
