Mission Statement

To be a child's voice in court. We recruit, train and support lay volunteers who act as advocates on behalf of the best interest of abused and neglected children.

Description

Jackson County CASA recruits, trains and provides on-going support to committed volunteers who advocate in the best interest of abused and neglected children within the court system. CASAs investigate case facts, make regular home visits with the child, attend staffings and meetings involving the child, assist the Jackson County CASA staff attorney/guardian ad litem who represents the child in legal proceedings, monitoring case progress to ensure the court order is followed and services are implemented in a timely manner. CASAs are men and women 21 years and older from all walks of life. CASA volunteers receive 14 hours of pre-service training and are sworn in by the family court judge. The ultimate goal of the CASA volunteer is to safely reunify children with their parents, or if that is not possible, to secure the best possible alternative permanent home for the child as quickly as possible.
