I just completed an eight month internship at the Red Cross Apheresis Unit as well as Central Supply services. I can't begin to say how much this internship has meant to me. The staff as well as the volunteers were friendly and supportive of me as a person as well as my goals. I've been working in healthcare as an RN mostly with Disaster Relief Missions around the world. Therefore, when I stress the attributes of a place, it comes with integrity as well as experience. The Apheresis Unit (platelet collections) has recently received National recognition, for attainment of monthly collections, as well as the people who staff it. I came to Red Cross, I was considering a return to Nursing. When I left Red Cross eight months later, I knew where I was heading. The volunteer here, is respected and acknowledged. The first people you will meet, is Lauren Grube and Karen Roberts. These good people will help you to achieve those higher values, that surely come with strength and bonds of humility

The internal support from the permanent staff is outstanding. A volunteer is offered many different areas in which they can use their own unique talents. And finally, the training and education which is so necessary to be an effective volunteer. It has been great fun to do Community Outreach.
