Mission Statement

Alliance's mission is to support economic, social, and political changes in Ukraine, the advancement of women's and youth human rights, equality, freedom of expression, and economic potential as an integral part of the process of democratization of Ukraine.

Description

While participating in the Community Connections exchange program in 1998, Svitlana Zakrevska's many meetings with American women's organizations inspired her to become more involved in women's issues upon her return to Ukraine. Other women joined her, and Alliance was registered as a non-governmental organization (NGO) in August of 1998 in Donetsk, Ukraine. Informational Consulting Center for youth non-profit organizations has started its activity on the base of Alliance since the 12th of July. Here youth organizations can get informational and consulting services in writing of projects and specialties of taxation, legislation, and accounting, etc. From August 15 till November 31 1999 Alliance provided the educational elections project by support of Canadian Embassy in Ukraine and Freedom House. The Project goals were to create awareness and to encourage public participation in politics and government for the realization of true democracy and sound government in Ukraine. Trough of the project it was provided: 6 seminars; 24 radio programs; 24 promotion activities; The "hot line" was organized, where the expert in elections answered questions of the citizens. In total more than 250,000 young people could participate in the project.
