Description

The Long Beach Junior Chamber(Jaycees) is a community involved, leadership training, social organization for individuals, age 21-40. WHO ARE WE? The Long Beach Junior Chamber, or Long Beach Jaycees, is a social, community involved and leadership training organization with state, national, and international affiliations. The Long Beach chapter originally started in Long Beach over 70 years ago as the Young Mens division of the Chamber of Commerce. We later affiliated with the National Junior Chamber organization and in 1984, officially admitted women. The Junior Chamber is the best way to meet other young people from different professions, backgrounds, and levels of experience. Our members are motivated to build their professional portfolios, get involved with charitable and civic causes, meet other influential people, make a difference in their personal lives, and have FUN while doing it. Many local business and civic leaders were once Jaycees. As prior students, many of our members were involved in student organizations, athletics, departmental clubs, academic organizations, student government, and Greek letter societies. Most members wanted that same level of community involvement when they graduated. Fortunately, the Long Beach Junior Chamber takes our talents to the next level. Even if you never got involved before, it is never too late. Now you can experience the fun you have missed!! WHAT DO WE DO? Since 1932, the Long Beach Jaycees have served the Long Beach and surrounding communities. Our Business and Individual Development / Personal Skills programs provide opportunities for networking, financial and investment seminars, and improving communications skills. The organization also provides the opportunity for hands-on experiences through coordinating one of our many projects. An organized calendar of community involved projects, networking and social mixers, high profile guest speakers from the community, fun social events and parties, skills enhancement projects, conventions and retreats, and much much more is at your fingertips. In recent years we have raised over $20,000 for local charities through projects like the Miss Long Beach and Miss Teen Long Beach Pageant, the Annual A.I.D.S. Fundraiser, the Yearly Back to School Shopping Spree, and an Annual Toy drive. We have also provided manpower for many local organizations including Habitat for Humanity, The Children's Clinic, the Long Beach Police Department, the Wildlife Way Stations, the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, Festival of Chefs for The Long Beach Youth Home, Musical Theatre West Broadway in the Park, YMCA Camp Oakes, Kid Care Registration, Disabled Children Societys Christmas Party, to name just a few. Some of the charitable and community organizations we've supported are: Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, March of Dimes, Muscular Dystrophy Association, Cedar Miller Memorial Childrens Hospital, D.A.R.E., California Special Olympics, Long Beach Youth Homes, American Cancer Society, and many more!
