Heartland Hospice believes that no one should die alone and we need third shift volunteers to sit with patients who are in the dying process. No hands -on -skills are needed, just your watchful eye and loving presence. All volunteers are trained and well prepared to offer support to the dying person and family. Volunteers make their own schedules and can accept or decline any assignments. We serve approximately 170 patients throughout Central Indiana and we match volunteers with patients within close driving distance. Do you take pride in your yard? So do our patients. We all know too well about the unique challenges that come with each of the Four seasons in order to maintain our lawn. It's even MORE difficult for hospice patients. But, this is where YOU come in! We are searching for volunteers who enjoy the great outdoors to do light yard work, weather permitting, to help our hospice patients enjoy a nicely manicured lawn because they are unable to so themselves. Veteran's Day care packages

We are looking for volunteers or a group of volunteers to make care packages for our Veterans. Heartland Hospice serves patients who are terminally ill with a prognosis of under 6 months. It is our goal to make the last days of their lives as comfortable and as meaningful as possible. This year on Veteran's Day we would like to deliver care packages to our patients who served their country through military service. We currently have approximately 45 Veterans on service. Care packages need to be delivered to our business office between November 2-6. Staff can either deliver them to our Veteran's the following week or you can drop them at the doorstep of the honored veteran. Care packages can be made using small boxes or gift bags and suggested items are: 1-2 pairs of good socks hand lotion lip balm salty snacks hard candy or chocolate letters, drawings, and cards patriotic masks, lanyards, bandanas, pens, etc. what else can you think of? Be creative, have fun, and keep in mind the dietary and safety issues that may be involved with a person who is facing a terminal illness. The mission of Heartland Hospice is to provide quality hospice care to patients with a limited life expectancy, as well as, support to their caregivers. The quality of life for those we serve is enhanced through palliative and specialized supportive care designed to meet the physical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs of the patients and caregivers.

Description

Hospice care is provided by an interdisciplinary team consisting of the Medical Director, Primary Physician, Nurses, Social Workers, Chaplains, as well as Bereavement Coordinators and Volunteers. Care is delivered to patients either in their own home or extended care facility. Heartland Hospice strives to provide care to all who are eligible and need hospice care irrespective of ability to pay.

This was easy. We put together bags for the hospice veterans for VETERANS DAY. The staff were very communicative every step of the way to make sure we didn't have any questions and assisted us with ideas for the bags.
