Mission Statement

To publicize and foster volunteerism as an important tool for social commitment and community improvement (in New York City). To achieve this through the pursuit of the following goals: - increased facilitation, networking and promotion of volunteerism - increased public awareness of the individual and community benefits of volunteering - promotion of professional management of volunteer programs - encouragement of more people to engage in sustained volunteer activity - promotion of cultural diversity in volunteerism by encouragingf people of different backgrounds to volunteer - by being a role model and tool for other cities in the United States and around the world

Description

The UN declared 2001 to be International Year of Volunteers. New York has a proud history at the forefront of volunteerism and a population of highly diverse community of volunteers. The New York Committee for International Year of Volunteers represents a coalition of over 60 not-for-profit organizations, government and business united by a strong desire to both celebrate International Year of Volunteers in the City. The committee is also dedicated to using the year to address the challenges facing. volunteerism in the new millenium and to promote it's growth and development across the City. All members of hte committee offer their services on a voluntary basis.
