Building community through vocal music...
Chorus Austin is the non-profit umbrella organization that manages the business functions and artistic productions of the Chorus Austin Consort, Austin Vocal Arts Ensemble, and the award-winning Austin Civic Chorus.
Austin Civic Chorus
The award-winning Austin Civic Chorus is a large symphonic group ranging in size from 70-140 singers, and performs choral masterworks with orchestra. ACC has three performances during its own concert season, and is also regularly seen performing in conjunction with the Austin Symphony Orchestra and the Georgetown Symphonic Society. Since 1996, the Austin Civic Chorus has been on stage at Riverbend Centre performing Handel's Messiah with the forces of the Austin Symphony Orchestra. In May 2008, the combined forces of Austin Civic Chorus and Austin Vocal Arts Ensemble will stand behind ASO in a performance of Beethoven's 9th Symphony (choral) at the newly-opened Long Center for the Performing Arts.
Austin Vocal Arts Ensemble
The Austin Vocal Arts Ensemble is a small, highly-trained group of musicians that specializes in choral music designed for chamber ensembles. The performance repertoire ranges from such works as Dixit Dominus by Handel to contemporary music by the likes of Morten Lauridsen and Eric Whitacre. AVAE performs 3 concerts during its regular concert season, and has performed on the stages of the ACDA convention in San Antonio and at the International Festival-Institute at Round Top.
Chorus Austin Consort
A subset of the Austin Vocal Arts Ensemble, the Chorus Austin Consort is a small ensemble ranging from 4 up to 24 that represents Chorus Austin in a variety of public performances. Consort performs primarily a cappella repertoire in a variety of styles from all periods of choral literature. Although Consort does not perform a regular concert season, the ensemble is available for private performances scheduled through our Consort manager.
