Mission Statement
Planned Parenthood Mid and South Michigan will ensure broad public access to reproductive health care through direct service, education and advocacy.
Our services and programs are available to all people, regardless of race, age, gender, marital status, national origin, disability or sexual orientation.
Description
Planned Parenthood believes in the fundamental right of individuals to make personal decisions regarding health and childbearing. We believe that reproductive self-determination is the right of all individuals and we work to protect every individual's right to privacy. We believe that every child be a wanted child.
Medical services include: gynecological exams, birth control, sexually transmitted infection testing and treatment, HIV testing and counseling, cancer screening, colposcopy/cryotherapy, surgical and medication abortion, prenatal care, and vasectomy.
Educational programs include: professional training, Baby-Think-It-Over teen pregnancy prevention program, , teen peer education program, public speaking on several reproductive health topics, such as: puberty, birth control methods, sexually transmitted infections, HIV and AIDS prevention, and talking to kids about sexuality, and many more.
Advocacy: Planned Parenthood staff and volunteers also serve as social and legislative advocates to ensure reproductive freedom. These efforts include letter-writing campaigns, legislative visits, public awareness programs and participation in local and statewide coalitions.
Funding: PPMSM is funded through a variety of sources including private donations, philanthropic grants, client fees, insurance reimbursement and Title X, a federally funded program to help low-income patients receive family planning care.
