Description

The Capitol Theater is a historic 1904 theater in Dover, DE which is being renovated (inside and out), and will become the Schwartz Center for the Arts. A such it will provide a cultural center for all downstate Delaware and the only institution devoted to the performing arts. The theater is being renovated as a historic preservation project, and is part of the effort to revitalize downtown Dover. It will provide many things for the community -- space as an educational facility regarding the arts; help with the development of the arts organizations in Central Delaware by providing a "home", rehearsal space, publicity and ticketing services which are not currently available anywhere in Kent County; a conference and seminar facility; as well as the opportunity to leverage the work of existing arts organizations in the Wilmington Area by providing a downstate venue for their programming.
