Mission Statement

The office of the State Long-Term Care Ombudsman of the Texas Department on Aging advocates for quality of live and quality of care for residents in long-term care facilities. Residents and their families are served by developing and using the talents and efforts of specially trained volunteers, professionals, advocacy and membership organizations and regulatory agencies who are interested in long-term care and elder-rights issues.

Description

An ombudsman is a specially trained and certified volunteer who advocates for quality of care in nursing facilities. volunteers are supervised by a professional staff ombudsman who is supported by the Texas Department on Aging. The ombudsman program is authorized by state and federal laws. A volunteer advocates for quality of life by; visiting a local nursing home weekly; providing information about resident rights; helping examine and resolved compliants by or on behalf of nursing home residents; working with residents, families, friends and nursing home staff to resolve complaints.
