Mission Statement

Our mission is to promote policies and strategies which adhere to the philosophy of individual and family self sufficiency and to provide information to aid residents of Stamford in obtaining basic human sustenance and services including those programs related to the needs of the elderly.

Description

The Social Services Division is under Health & Social Services and serves populations 0 to elderly with information and referral, senior outreach, rent rebate, relocation & eviction services, fair rent, human rights, aiding welfare to work mothers, global housing problems and so on. The Infoline Referral Center housed in the Government Center Lobby is maintained by this division but is a cooperative effort between the United Way, Infoline (who serves as the fiduciary agent) and Citibank. The City lends the space, and staff time but it is viewed as a not for profit venture and that is why Infoline is the fiduciary agency. We are also developing a Yacline - teen to teen information and referral service, in cooperation with the Youth Services Bureau, to begin this fall.
