Mission Statement

The Downtown Emergency Service Center (DESC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping homeless people achieve their highest possible level of self-sufficiency. Our programs give priority to the most vulnerable and severely disabled homeless people.

Description

DESC was founded in 1979 as an emergency shelter for homeless men and women in downtown Seattle. It has grown since then to encompass three comprehensive programs; the Shelter, the Mental Health and Outreach Program, and the Housing Program. These work together to assist the most vulnerable and disabled homeless individuals in gaining self-sufficiency.
