Mission Statement

The purposes of Frick Woods Nature Reserve are to protect and enhance natural diversity in the heart of Pittsburgh for present and future generations: to provide opportunities for all of us to experience nature to the fullest through educational programs, habitat restoration projects, and volunteer participation.

Description

Frick Environmental Center is the home of Pittsburgh's environmental educational education program. Each year students experience nature first hand as they participate in activities that focus on environmental awareness. Families have opportunities to learn about the environment while taking part in family events such as Pioneer Night and Bump in the Night. Frick Wood Nature Reverve was designated an urban wildlife reserve in 1992. In 1993 the initiative to replace native plants lost through timbering and farming began. Today native wild flower gardens are being used to propagate plants for the Reserve.
