Description

The Wyandotte Youth Assistance Program is a non-profit community based program that works with Wyandotte youth ages 7-16 yrs. old and their families. This intervention/prevention program has been operating since 1988. Referrals come from families, schools, police, juvenile court, other agencies, and even the youth as self-referrals. Problems that the youth may be having are family conflicts, school problems, truancy, alcohol/drug use, change in residence or school, commission of misdemeanor or felony, grief/loss issues, or behavioral problems. Based on an initial intake to gather information, a plan is devised toward helping the youth and family according to needs. This plan may include weekly meetings with a volunteer mentor, individual or famiy therapy, community work service, group counseling, recreational acitivities and parenting support. All services are voluntary, confidential and at no cost to the family.
