Our mission is to develop through swimming and swim competion the character traits, technical skills and high self esteem necessary for maximum realization of each individual's potential.

Description

The Samaki Swim Team was founded in 1994 to give Harlen youth an alternative educational experience within a competitive yet fun athletic setting. Samaki(from the Swahili for dolphin) is made up of children between six and seventeen of African and Hispanic descent. The team practices Monday through Friday from 5 to 6 pm at the NYC Parks & Recreation's Hansborough Recreation Center("the Bathhouse"). The team is a member of USS swimming and competes year-round in the Metropolitan area.
