The mission of the Long Island Senior Games is to bring opportunities for enhanced health, fitness, quality of live and longevity to all people who are age 50 and over. In support of its mission, the "Games" 1. Annually presents a four or five day program of competitive sports, recreational games and educational fitness classes. 2. Presents a great variety of physical activities to encourage fun and fitness for the aging that includes opportunities for companionship. 3. Encourages a daily lifelong attitude of maintaining and improving one's physical fitness to stave off perceived effects of aging.
Our organization is a 501-c-3 not-for-profit corporation founded 3 years ago. Of course, there were two years prior to the incorporation to get everything organized. Our staff consists primarily of retired physical education professors and teachers, coaches and health professionals. We have no paid personnel. We offer 18 major sports (eg. swimming,track and field, team sports, racket sports, 5/10 K Road racing, golf etc.).We offer 11 minor recreational sports and contests (miniature golf, darts, frisbee, basketball, softball and football throwing contests, and other similar events). We feature 10 fitness classes (yoga, tai chi, exercise, dance, weights, nutrition). We utilize various college campuses and park facilities.
