Solano County Library offers professional, innovative, cost effective service by providing library materials, resources, information, entertainment and life-long learning opportunitites to enrich the lives of the people of Solano County.
The Solano County Library provides literacy instruction for English-speaking adults. Volunteers tutor adults, one-on-one, at a time and place convenient to both tutor and student. Pairs meet twice a week for an hour and a half each time. Students work on goals that are important to them. All materials are provided for free. Adult students with children 0-5 years in the home receive additional instruction and materials to help their children develop emerging literacy skills. In addition, the library offers a pediatric literacy program for parents of infants and pre-schoolers at medical clinics in Solano County. Physicians and nurse practitioners counsel parents on the importance of reading aloud to their children during well-baby visits. The family receives a free book that is age and culturally appropriate. Volunteers read aloud in clinic waiting rooms.
