PATH Int'l Certified Therapeutic Horseback Riding Instructor

Therapeutic horseback riding instructors (TRI) must be able to verbally instruct riders with special needs how to ride a horse. They must be able to prepare written lesson plans, goals and objectives for each individual student. TRIs must be able to manage volunteers and equines. TRIs must be able to arrive 1/2 hour prior to each lesson to prepare for lessons and stay 1/2 hour after each lesson to clean up after lessons and write evaluations of each student's lesson. Instructors must also be able to work amicably with lesson volunteers and abide by procedures as prescribed by the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International. Prior horse show experience also a plus.

Physical or Occupational Therapists

Some of our riders have limited income, and no regular physical or occupational therapists. Medical volunteers help by evaluating prospective riders, at no charge, prior to entry into the program. They may also assist the program director in developing a specific riding program for these riders.

Lesson Volunteers to Work with Horses and Adults and Children with Special Needs

Queen of Hearts Therapeutic Riding Center, Inc. works with adults and children with special needs and helps them work through their disabilities by working with and/or riding horses. Lesson volunteers fulfill a variety of assignments including leading horses during lessons, assisting with students with special needs during the lessons, grooming horses and preparing them for lessons and basic barn cleaning. No experience necessary - will train. Maintenance Volunteers

The maintenance volunteers perform routine repairs to the facilities of the center and/or stable maintenance and landscape maintenance. They may also assist in facility development projects. Many maintenance and landscape projects are ideal opportunities for youth and church organizations. Some maintenance projects include: fence, barn, mounting ramp, and shed repairs and maintenance; the landscape needs continual weeding and pruning.

We are dedicated to improve the bodies, minds, spirits and quality of life of persons with physical and/or developmental disabilities and/or mental illnesses through equine-assisted activities.

Description

We provide equine-assisted services including teaching horseback riding to adults and children with special needs. We are a PATH Int'l Premier Accredited Center and we use the EAGALA method of equine-assisted psychotherapy and learning. We have adaptive horseback riding equipment to assist those who have difficulty walking and we have a wheelchair-to-horse lift to help transfer riders to horses.
