Mission Statement
Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) mission: To stop drunk driving and support the victims of this violent crime and prevent underage drinking.
Description
Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) provides free victim services for victims and families providing grief support and a variety of materials, referals for legal, medical and financial assistance, assistance through the court process and much more.
MADD conducts programs and projects focused on eliminating drunk driving such as the holiday red ribbon program "Tie One On For Safety" from Thanksgiving through New Years Day, law enforcement programs partnering with local law enforcement agencies throughout Michigan, and preventing underage drinking. Our largest community awareness event is Walk like MADD which takes place spring 2013.
In addition MADD provides victim impact panels reaching over 12,000 drunk driving offenders each year. Injured or bereaved victims tell how a drinking driver impacted their life as well as informational video's are shown. The audience consists of first and second time MIP, OWI, and OUIL drivers ordered by the courts to attend these panels as part of their sentence.
MADD Michigan provides programs focused on preventing underage drinking such as The Power of Parents, minor in possession programs, school programs and presentations, and much more.
