Help a neighbor with grocery shopping! Towns served include Belmont, Brookline, Needham, Newton, Watertown, Waltham, Wellesley, and Weston Join the Springwell Volunteer Team and make a difference in just 1-2 hours per week. As we grow older, some of the tasks we do every day can become increasingly difficult, like grocery shopping. As a volunteer Shopping Assistant, you will be matched one to one with an older adult in need of this service. Some folks would like a companion by their side as they navigate around the store, but most simply prefer a person to shop for them or pick up pre ordered groceries at the store. Join the Springwell team as a Home Delivered Meals Driver! Springwell is an essential part of the social safety net for thousands of older adults each year. Springwell has never stopped working diligently to continue to provide services to our senior community through the pandemic. We have, however, faced unique and unanticipated challenges, especially in our home-delivered meals program, which has suffered from staffing issues due to the closure of a key community partner. Springwell responded by recruiting temporary volunteers who are willing to provide home delivery of meals. Even with re-opening activities, we continue to need volunteers to fill this vital role. We especially need volunteers who can work in the towns of Brookline and Newton. Monday and Friday availability if much needed!!! If you are: interested in receiving training and support to help us reach vulnerable seniors with critical in-home meals; have a reliable car, a current driver’s license, and a clean driving record; are able to provide these services, consistent with guidance we receive from the CDC, WHO and other governmental agencies, recognizing you may come into contact with high-risk members of our community and others; are able to lift up to 25 pounds; and and are successfully able to meet the regulatory pre-requisites for the position. *Note: These positions are temporary and on a volunteer basis, without compensation or benefits. Please contact us! Email volunteer@springwell.com to start the process; or go online and apply to volunteer at www.springwell.com/volunteer

The Home Delivered Meals Program provides older adults with a nutritious lunch delivered to their door up to 5 days per week. It is an essential tool to prevent food insecurity, malnutrition, and social isolation when mobility challenges, illness, or disability make it difficult to grocery shop and prepare food. During the recent COVID pandemic, Springwell went from delivering 250,000 meals to 350,000 annually. Even with the end of pandemic restrictions, we continue to serve the same number of meals in response to the challenges of living on a fixed income in a period of inflation and the loneliness crisis. With the ongoing shifts in the economy and the job market, we have been unable to hire enough full-time drivers to deliver all these meals. Volunteers have generously responded to our recruiting efforts for drivers enabling us to deliver each meal in a timely manner Monday through Friday. We always need more drivers. Please volunteer to join us for a shift or two each week if the following qualifications make this opportunity a good fit for you: Must have a reliable car, a current driver’s license, and a clean driving record; Must be able to lift 25 pounds; and Must meet the regulatory pre-requisites for the position. Springwell will train volunteers and provide ongoing support to make sure each volunteer has the resources needed to deliver meals to older adults relying on this service. Please contact us! Email volunteer@springwell.com to start the process; or go online to learn more at https://springwell.com/resource/volunteer-home-delivered-meals-drivers/
