Mission Statement

The Greenbelt Committee is dedicated to leading a community-basedprocess to establish, preserve, and promote a greenway trail along theformer Pacific Electric right-of-way in southeast Long Beach.

Description

The Greenbelt Project is a community enhancement plan for a former Pacific Electric Right-of-way in the city of Long Beach, California, the 38th congressional district. This 11.3-acre parcel has remained basically undisturbed and untended for over 40 years. It is the goal of the Greenbelt Committee to reclaim and revegetate this city owned property for the benefit of the community. Using primarily native plants and trees, we plan to enhance the existing open space and create a link to the park at Colorado Lagoon, through the Belmont Heights, Recreation Park, and other neighborhoods. These neighborhoods are both economically and culturally diverse, but share the common need of open and green areas. We believe that a landscaped 'strollway' will not only be a benefit to the whole community, but will also serve as a welcoming gateway to visitors entering Long Beach via 7th St.
