To inspire, encourage, and support the socially and economically disadvantaged youths to strive for both athletic and academic excellence.
The Metropolitan Athletics Congress, Inc. (MAC) is a not-for-profit organization. It was founded in 1980 and has served thousands of youths and their families throughout the New York metropolitan area for twenty years. We provide youths with access to resources and technical assistance for overcoming the obstacles that impede their academic performance and for developing marketable skills which will enable them to become productive members of society. To date, this mission has been accomplished by integrating a Track Program with Homework Assistance, Academic Support, Leadership Training, Mentoring and Substance Abuse Prevention. Currently, we serve approximately 7,500 youths and families annually. MAC's programmatic achievements have won national, regional and local acclaims for our innovative use of athletics as an academic and social tool for at risk youths. Success stories of our youths over the years and variety of newspaper articles published in the New York Times all recognize and attest to the meritorious services that our agency provides. We are currently seeking funds to create an After School Learning and Technology Center that will enable us to provide youths with free access to a full range of computer/Internet training workshops. We plan to use the best features of this technology to enhance our existing programs.
