Description
Salmon Corps began with the goal of utilizing the Native American community in the Pacific Northwest to repair disappearing salmon habitats of the Columbia River Basin. Through the incorporation of native alnguages, tribal environmental knowledge, and cutting edge science and technology into the program, young people are reclaiming connections to their communities, history, and rivers. This approach serves a dual purpose by rehabilitating both salmon and young people from the tribal communities of the area- many of which are facing severe social and economic challenges. As historical stewards of salmon, tribal people have stepped forward to protect and restore the salmon; an integral part of the Northwest Tribe's culture, religion, and sustainability.
