Mandala Youth Leadership Academy

Description

The MYLA leadership develoment program is a 12-day residential experiential education program that takes place at the Mandala Center in Des Moines, New Mexico. Four basic leadership skills (effective communication, introspection, self-evaluation, and decision-making) are taught and practiced in four domains (getting to know yourself, getting to know others, integrating values, and balancing individual rights with social responsibilities) over twelve days. Fifty percent of the program takes place outdoors on a ropes course and camping. The indoor sessions are interactive problem-solving activities and creative/artistic expressions (sketching, painting, drawing, journaling, singing) that encourage practice of the basic skills. Participants are youth between the ages of 13 and 17.
