Mission Statement

Amigos de las Americas Seattle is the Seattle Chapter of Amigos de las America, an internation, voluntary, non-governmental, not-for-profit organization that, through service:-Provides leadership development opportunities for young people;-Promotes community health in Latin America; and Facilitates cross-cultural understanding for the people of the Americas. Amigos de las Americas of Seattle recruits high school and college students from the Seattle metropolitan area to participate in a seven month leadership training program followed by six and eight week community health projects in Latin America.

Description

Amigos volunteers work during the summer in communities, schools and health clinics in eight Latin American countries where they are invited to provide public health and environmental education activities. For over 30 years, the AMIGOS mission to provide leadership development opportunities for young people, promote community health for the people of Latin America, and encourage cross-cultural understanding among peoples of the Americas, has challenged its teen volunteers to appreciate the world from a cultural and economica perspective profundly different from their own.
