Mission Statement
The Lotus Charter School will provide an education that evokes each child's maximum potential, preparing them for the New World and the New Economy with the self knowledge, communication, collaboration and problem solving skills that will enable them to successfully pursue their chosen future endeavors.The Lotus Charter School will use an art infused, thematic, interdisciplinary, community oriented approach for learning. The infusion of arts including visual arts, world music, drama, poetry and creative writing, dance and culinary arts will surface and develop the innate creativity and imagination inherent in each child. The thematic approach honors student interests, motivating students to excel academically and in developing a passion for wondering, questioning and learning. The interdisciplinary approach models real life and will develop integrative thinking, resulting in exceptional problem solving skills, both individually and in collaboration with others. The community orientation will honor the maxim that "It takes a whole village to raise a child", developing a spirited community to foster the growth and development of each child. The safe, positive, nurturing learning environment will provide a foundation for healthy values including self care and nutrition, developing "mens sana in corpore sano", a healthy mind in a healthy body. It will develop the child's awareness, consideration and appreciation of others and the planet and world at large. It will be inclusive, seeking, honoring and modeling parent and community partnerships.The result of a Lotus Charter School education will be children who possess the confidence of knowing themselves and how to be and work in community. They will know how to tap the power of their creative forces, fueling their ability to bring forth innovation. They will have exceptional problem solving capabilities, giving them the presence to work through adversities to reach their chosen goals. In combination, these foundation qualities will give the children the ability to thrive. They will envision and create the life of their dreams from the context of the greater whole, becoming model citizens for our future.
