Mission Statement

To assist low-income and homeless people with financial assistance for housing costs, through a network of comprehensive support services, and enable them to become self-sufficient and no longer dependent on public support.

Description

Founded by Sam Boyce in 1987 with the asistance of 6 volunteers. SPIN incorporated in 1989 has 19 members on the Board of Directors' and 12 members of the Advisory Board. SERVICES OFFERED: GAPP Program: Offers low-income and homeless families with children (one adult must be working full-time) and youth exiting the foster system, move-on costs to permanent housing and mandatory, comprehensive case management lasting up to two years, including family advisors, tutors for children, childcare cost subsidies, personal and job counseling, referrals, budgeting skills, etc. SARP Program: Offers move-in costs to a recovery home, counseling, bus passes to locate employment and eligibility to the GAPP program, if sobriety is maintained for 12-18 months. STREET Services: Volunteers prepare and deliver a sack meal, hygiene kits, and seasonal clothing to the homeless living on the streets.
