Mission Statement
The purpose of the Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program is to recruit, screen, train, and supervise volunteers to serve as advocates who speak up for the best interests of abused, neglected children whose placements are being decided by the court.
Description
The CASA volunteer works with the court and other agencies to expedite the movement of the child through the juvenile court system in such a manner that a safe, permanent placement is found as quickly as possible. The volunteer also works to ensure that appropriate resources and services are made available to the child and/or family members. CASA of Northeast Tennessee serve the children who come to the attention of the Washington County Juvenile Court, Greene County Juvenile Court and Unicoi County Juvenile Court. No special background or knowledge is needed to be a CASA volunteer. Volunteers are everyday people from a variety of backgrounds, who share the desire to speak up for the most vulnerable children in their communities. Each advocate is thoroughly trained so they can work effectively and with confidence. Nationally, only about one third of the children who need a caring adult advocate have one. Here in Washington, Greene and Unicoi Counties many children still need a volunteer. Every child deserves a safe, stable home where he or she can thrive. Won't you help? A CHILD is waiting?
